What is a wedding celebrant, and how do they differ from a wedding officiant?
A celebrant is trained to offer you a personalized wedding ceremony that reflects who you are as individuals and as a couple.  They take the time to understand your beliefs and values and what makes you and your love story unique.  Celebrants use their knowledge of rituals, ceremony styles and cultural traditions to collaborate with you to craft a one-of-a-kind ceremony.  No two celebrant ceremonies are alike. Learn more about celebrants on the Weddings page.

Officiants typically offer a brief, Justice of the Peace-type ceremony, meeting with the couple one or two times.  Some couples find this type of ceremony perfectly suited to their needs.

What types of ceremonies are possible?

There are so many ways to personalize your ceremony.  You may be interested in a secular, spiritual, interfaith and/or multicultural approach.  You may be thinking about a special theme or tone for your ceremony – any of these are possible. We can discuss special rituals, readers, guest involvement and more throughout our time together.

How will we work together?

Throughout the planning process, we will meet as often as needed to ensure you are delighted with your ceremony. We can meet virtually via Zoom, FaceTime, Skype or Google Meet, or in-person.

How long is the ceremony planning process?

The ceremony planning process will usually take a few months to create together.  Some couples like to plan far ahead of their wedding date, some like to start the planning process a few months ahead.  We can decide on your planning timeline as we meet to discuss your unique ceremony ideas. Celebrants have multiple ideas and resources to share to help you organize and personalize your ceremony.
